On October 28, 2021, at the self-owned Radioactive Material Packaging Container Test Base, CIRP successfully completed the safety validation test of the radioactive material transport container weighing nearly 50 tons, designed and manufactured by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE). The container fell from a height of 9 meters, and the mechanical test is verified to be effective after technical check by on-site experimenters.
CIRP is the only organization in China that has the safety test facility for 130t radioactive material transport containers, and has successfully performed dozens of safety validation tests on transport containers ranging from several tons to over 10 tons. This test is the first mechanical test on the prototype of large-sized radioactive material transport containers in China. The success of the test demonstrates that China has formed the safety test capacity of large-scale radioactive material transport containers.
